Chef Of The Month – Iyabo Lawani
Our Chef of the month is one of the leading women and founding fathers of television cooking shows in Nigeria. We cannot write history without acknowledging her contribution that has influenced many lives of many food bloggers today. Today we celebrate and salute Iyabo Lawani.
Iyabo Lawani is the grand patron of Maggi cooking shows; Maggi Family Menu and Maggi Good Food Moments. I’ll never forget watching her during my childhood days on NTA and AIT. My dream was to one day be able to taste her food. You never know, maybe one it will come true. Memories of her smile and bright yellow apron puts a smile on my face.
From the rich cultural heritage of the Niger-Delta, Iyabo Lawani is from Warri, an Itsekiri woman. No doubt it has been know that Itsekiri women are great cooks. She enjoys cooking, reading and entertaining guests. A pioneer that has pushed and continues to lead the food industry in Nigeria, Iyabo is a Food Consultant, Nutritionist, Home economist, Food Stylist and Photographer.
Her recipes have kept our heritage alive. She believes that no shortcuts can achieve the same results when it comes to cooking Nigerian dishes. Iyabo lives by the philosophy that there is no compromise with quality and originality when it comes to food. To cook a great dish, you must first understand the food, its origin, the ingredients, spices and best method used.
Bubbly, full of life and always creating a new recipe, Iyabo Lawani also runs her own catering business, is a mother of 7 children and a wife. Arguably one of Nigerias leading foodies on the map. Our golden girl for International Women’s Day!
This is why we love Iyabo Lawani.
